What is 1 technology that you could not be as an effective teacher if you did not have? Why is this so? What is one aspect of your teaching you would never want to replace with technology? Why is this so?
The technology that I feel most benefits me as a teacher is the laptop. I use the laptop in so many different lessons that I feel I would lose an aspect of my teaching without it. In my class I like to have my students experience using technology through a wireless mouse. There are times where we will have morning warm ups where the students solve problems from their seats and pass the mouse along. I also try to show fun videos or pictures that relate to their lessons or to use the laptop to model my writing or mathematics. In my opinion, my use of technology helps my students bridge their knowledge with the outside world and familiarizes themselves with the usefulness of the internet and a computer.
The aspect that I would never want to replace with technology is the person to person/ human connection that I build with my students. In our class we discussed how technology could potentially take the job of a teacher. Technology is advancing at a tremendous rate and we are discovering that it is capable of feats we have only dreamed about, but there is something to be said about a teacher's ability to connect to their students. There is a bond created that motivates the student to want to learn and want to come to school. If teaching was only explaining information throughout the day, sure a basic piece of technology could do the job. However, a teacher needs to be considerate of the student each day, each hour, and each minute. How can the teacher best teach each student and motivate them to do their best. When a student is struggling, how can we get them to break through and grasp the idea. I don't think technology would be able to replicate that connection.
